Frontier technology, made legible
fobi is an independent research and intelligence platform for frontier technology. It continuously tracks the companies, funding, patents, hiring, and news shaping 30 emerging sectors — from AI and semiconductors to robotics, quantum, and defense — and distils 1100+ companies into structured profiles, daily briefs, and cited analysis.
What fobi is
The frontier moves faster than any one person can read. Fobi’s job is to make it legible: a persistent, structured layer of intelligence over the companies and technologies defining the next decade, so you understand where things are heading earlier and more clearly — without drowning in fragmented news and hype.
Every sector page carries a ranked roster of the companies that matter, each with a full profile: what they do and why it matters, funding history, key people, patents, hiring signals, a structured bull-and-bear case, and AI-generated analysis. The daily Frontline brief tracks what moved in each sector and why it matters, and a dedicated jobs board surfaces open roles across every tracked company.
Our mission
To help ambitious people understand where technology is heading earlier and more clearly — building a trusted research layer for frontier technology and the community of operators, founders, and investors building it.
Fobi is a subscription product with no advertising, sponsored placements, or engagement-driven noise. A paid model keeps it independent and sustainable, so the focus stays on the quality of the research rather than the volume of the traffic.
How the intelligence is built
Fobi combines hand-curation, primary-source data ingestion, and language models paired with live web search. Company rosters are curated and ranked by a recurring audit; funding, patents, and hiring are ingested from primary sources including SEC EDGAR filings, USPTO records, and company disclosures; and the daily Frontline brief is assembled from a merit-scored read of each sector’s news.
Where AI synthesis is used — briefs, bull-and-bear cases, funding and sector analysis — it runs against cited sources and is designed to be checkable, not taken on faith. The full breakdown of what’s human, what’s machine, what’s cited, and how often each surface refreshes lives on the disclosures & methodology page.
Fobi is a research and intelligence platform. Nothing on it constitutes financial, legal, or investment advice, and it should not be relied upon as such.
Who's behind it
Fobi is designed, built, and edited by Ricky Richards, its founder. It began as a personal need — a way to keep an honest, structured map of frontier technology without relying on the news cycle — and grew into the platform it is today.
The editorial standards, sector taxonomy, and the AI-assisted pipeline behind every surface are all founder-directed. Member feedback shapes the roadmap directly: subscribers vote on which sectors and capabilities come next.
