AI21 Labs
AI21 Labs is an Israeli AI company founded in 2017 by Ori Goshen, Yoav Shoham, and Amnon Shashua, building foundation models and AI systems for enterprises. Its Jamba family of models combines a Mamba state-space architecture with transformer layers and a mixture-of-experts design for long-context, efficient inference. In 2025 it introduced Maestro, an AI planning and orchestration system aimed at improving the reliability of enterprise AI. A widely reported $300M Series D involving Google and Nvidia was discussed in 2025 but never closed.
AI21 is one of the longest-running independent foundation-model labs and a pioneer of hybrid Mamba-transformer architectures with Jamba, giving it a differentiated approach to long-context, efficient enterprise AI.
