AMI Labs (Advanced Machine Intelligence) is an independent AI research lab building action-conditioned world models on Yann LeCun's Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA) — a contrarian bet that learning from real-world sensor data, not language alone, is the path to machines that genuinely understand the physical world. It was co-founded in late 2025 by LeCun, who left his post as Meta's Chief AI Scientist, with Alexandre Lebrun — previously co-founder and CEO of healthcare-AI startup Nabla — as CEO and LeCun as executive chairman. Headquartered in Paris with offices in New York, Montreal, and Singapore, the company emerged in March 2026 with a $1.03 billion seed round, the largest ever for a European startup, co-led by Bezos Expeditions, Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, and HV Capital with participation from Nvidia, Samsung, and Temasek. It plans to license its technology for industrial process control, robotics, wearables, and healthcare, and does not expect a saleable product for several years.
