Cohere
Cohere is an enterprise AI company building large language models and AI agents for regulated industries including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and the public sector. Founded in 2019 by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst, and Ivan Zhang, it develops the Command family of models and the North agent platform, and emphasizes secure, on-premise, and sovereign deployments. In 2025 it appointed Joelle Pineau, former VP of AI research at Meta, as chief AI officer. In April 2026, Cohere announced a merger with Germany's Aleph Alpha alongside a Series E led by the Schwarz Group (~$600M), valuing the combined company at roughly $20B; Aidan Gomez remains CEO.
Cohere reached roughly $240M in ARR in 2025 and, following its April 2026 merger with Aleph Alpha, raised at a roughly $20B valuation, positioning it as a leading independent enterprise-focused alternative to OpenAI and Anthropic with a sovereign-AI angle.
