Perplexity
Perplexity is an Autonomous Agent Platforms company founded in 2022 and based in San Francisco, United States. It has raised $1.7B in total funding, most recently a Late-stage venture in 2025 at a $22.6B valuation.
Perplexity operates an AI 'answer engine' that responds to questions with conversational, source-cited answers built on large language models, and is expanding into agentic computing with Comet, a Chromium-based AI browser that automates web tasks. It was founded in August 2022 by Aravind Srinivas (CEO, ex-OpenAI and DeepMind researcher), Denis Yarats (CTO, ex-Meta AI), Johnny Ho (Chief Strategy Officer, ex-Quora), and Andy Konwinski (a Databricks co-founder). The company launched its search product in December 2022 and released the Comet browser for free download in October 2025.
Perplexity scaled rapidly to a roughly $20B valuation in 2025 (up from about $9B and $14B earlier in the year) and an estimated ~$200M ARR, emerging as a leading challenger to Google in AI-native search and a notable entrant in agentic browsing.
