Zhipu AI
Zhipu AI (legally Beijing Zhipu Huazhang Technology) is a Chinese foundation-model company incubated at Tsinghua University in 2019, building the open-weight GLM model family and the Z.ai consumer and developer platform. Founded by Tsinghua professors Tang Jie and Li Juanzi, with Zhang Peng as CEO. In January 2026 it became the first of China's so-called AI 'tigers' to list publicly, debuting on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Backers ahead of the IPO included Alibaba, Tencent, Ant Group, Meituan, Xiaomi, Hillhouse, HongShan and Saudi Aramco's Prosperity7 Ventures.
Zhipu was the first Chinese large-language-model company to complete an IPO, listing in Hong Kong in January 2026 after raising roughly $558M at about a $6.6B valuation.
