David Liu holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University and has more than two decades of Silicon Valley entrepreneurship behind him: he co-founded RMG Networks, which completed an IPO in 2012, and founded RedAtoms, a mobile gaming company that was later acquired. In 2016 he teamed up with Stanford PhD classmates to found Plus (PlusAI) in Silicon Valley, applying deep learning to the long-haul trucking industry's driver shortage and safety problems. As CEO, Liu has positioned Plus as a software-first 'virtual driver' company that partners with truck OEMs — including a landmark deal with FAW, the world's largest heavy-truck maker, and later factory-integration programs with Traton Group brands and others — rather than operating its own fleet. Under his leadership Plus completed one of the first cross-country autonomous freight runs in the US in 2019, put its supervised system into commercial use in 2021, and agreed in 2025 to go public via merger with Churchill Capital Corp IX.
Shawn Kerrigan earned his PhD at Stanford University, where he met his future Plus co-founders. Over the following two decades he built an unusually broad operating résumé — management consulting at McKinsey, investing at Bridgewater Associates, and co-founding another technology company — before joining David Liu to found Plus in 2016. As Chief Operating Officer he runs the operational side of the autonomous trucking developer, from safety validation programs and pilot deployments with fleets to the OEM partnerships through which Plus's factory-built autonomous trucks reach the market.

SuperDrive is PlusAI's virtual-driver software, a Level 4 autonomous-driving system meant to be integrated by truck manufacturers into factory-built autonomous trucks rather than retrofitted aftermarket. It combines sensor fusion, an AI driving model, and a foundation-model-based perception and planning stack to operate Class 8 trucks on highways. The 2026 SuperDrive 6.0 release added commercial-grade capabilities including night driving and construction-zone handling, which PlusAI describes as steps toward fully driverless deployment with its OEM partners later in the decade.
