Autodesk bought the core technology and IP, not the business: the RADiCAL web portal and its Core, Live, and Canvas services shut down on July 6, 2026, annual subscribers are being refunded, and user data is being deleted rather than migrated, which is the anatomy of an asset sale, not a triumphant exit with retention packages and an earn-out story. Terms were not disclosed, and undisclosed consideration following a strategic investor's inside position rarely signals a premium; Autodesk had watched the business from the cap table since 2022 and chose to acquire the technology while the standalone service was discontinued. The underlying commercial lesson generalizes: browser-based markerless mocap never demonstrated a durable standalone business model, because the capability was being commoditized simultaneously by free and near-free alternatives — Rokoko Vision at the hobbyist tier, Move AI and Meshcapade in production workflows, open-source pose-estimation stacks underneath everything — while the customers with real budgets (game studios, VFX houses) preferred capture integrated into incumbent pipelines, which is exactly why the technology's terminal home is inside Autodesk. Anyone evaluating RADiCAL today is evaluating a company whose products cease to exist mid-2026 and whose engineering nucleus now works on Autodesk's roadmap. For the FOBI roster, it belongs to the pattern worth tracking across the mocap segment: point-solution capture tools are being absorbed into platforms, and the independents that remain must either own hardware, own a vertical, or own distribution.
