Replika

Replika is an AI companion app built by San Francisco-based Luka, Inc. and founded by Eugenia Kuyda, who began the project after a friend's death and launched the consumer app in 2017. Each user has a single customizable companion that builds a persistent relationship over time, remembering past conversations and adapting to the user; the app monetizes mainly through subscriptions. It reports tens of millions of registered users. Kuyda stepped down as CEO in early 2025 to start a new company, Wabi, with Dmytro Klochko listed as Replika's CEO thereafter. The company has drawn regulatory attention, including a multimillion-euro fine from Italy's data-protection authority.
