CarbonCapture's thesis is that DAC scales through mass manufacturing, not megaplants: shipping-container-sized, renewable-powered machines built around inexpensive, industrially-produced zeolite sorbents, software-coordinated into large open-system arrays where modules can be swapped and upgraded as sorbent chemistry improves. That open architecture is a genuine strategic bet — decoupling the machine from any single sorbent lets the platform ride down a cost curve rather than freezing today's chemistry into concrete. The pedigree is strong: co-founded by Idealab's Bill Gross, led by CEO Adrian Corless (a DAC veteran from Carbon Engineering), and backed by a $35M Series A from Prime Movers Lab, Rio Tinto, Idealab Studio, and Marc Benioff's Time Ventures, plus an $80M Series A extension in 2024 — roughly $115M total. Removals are already sold to Microsoft and Boston Consulting Group, giving it real offtake demand. And the company's hardest 2024 decision — pausing its flagship Wyoming Project Bison and relocating its first commercial deployment because it couldn't secure enough carbon-free power against surging data-center demand — is, read correctly, a bull signal about discipline: rather than burn capital on an underpowered site, it moved the project (reportedly toward Deep Sky's Alpha site in Canada) to where clean electrons are actually available. In a field where cheap clean power is the binding constraint, a company willing to chase the power rather than force the plant is playing the long game.
