CarbonCapture Inc is a Direct Air Capture company founded in 2019 and based in Los Angeles, United States. It has raised $115M in total funding, most recently a Series A in 2024.
Co-founded by Idealab's Bill Gross and led by CEO Adrian Corless, Los Angeles-based CarbonCapture builds modular, renewable-powered machines that use industrially produced zeolite sorbents to pull CO2 from the air, designed to be connected into large arrays. It raised a $35 million Series A in 2021 from Prime Movers Lab, Rio Tinto, Idealab Studio, and Marc Benioff's Time Ventures, and an $80 million Series A extension announced in 2024. In 2024 the company paused its flagship Wyoming Project Bison and began relocating its first commercial deployment after it could not secure enough carbon-free power amid surging data-center demand, while continuing to build a pilot plant and deliver removals already sold to Microsoft and others.
Its open-system, mass-producible machine approach is a bellwether for whether modular direct air and point-source capture can scale, and for the power constraints now squeezing the sector.
