CarbonCure Technologies is a Carbon Removal (CDR) company founded in 2012 and based in Halifax, Canada. It has raised $80M in total funding, most recently a Series F in 2023.
Founded in 2012 by Rob Niven and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, CarbonCure retrofits its technology into existing concrete plants so producers can inject captured CO2 into fresh concrete during mixing, where it converts into an embedded mineral that permanently stores the carbon and increases compressive strength. The carbon-mineralization platform has made CarbonCure a leader in the concrete decarbonization market and a supplier of carbon credits. In 2020 it was among the first recipients from Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund, which co-led an investment alongside Breakthrough Energy Ventures, with backing also from Microsoft and BDC Capital, and it won the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE grand prize.
It is the most widely deployed CO2-mineralization technology in concrete, turning the world's most-used building material into durable carbon storage.
