Charm collects waste biomass such as agricultural residues and wildfire-risk material and processes it through fast pyrolysis into a stable, carbon-dense bio-oil. The bio-oil is then injected deep underground into geologic formations, locking away the carbon that the plants pulled from the atmosphere for thousands of years. Because the carbon is stored as a liquid below the surface, it avoids the decomposition that would otherwise return CO2 to the air, producing durable, measurable removal credits sold to corporate buyers.
Charm produces biochar, a stable solid carbon material made by heating biomass in low-oxygen conditions, as a second durable removal pathway. The biochar locks organic carbon into a form that resists decomposition for centuries and can be applied to soils or stored, generating verified carbon-removal credits. Google contracted Charm in 2025 for 100,000 tonnes of removal delivered through 2030, one of the largest biochar purchases on record, reflecting growing corporate demand for permanent, high-durability carbon removal.
