Charm's economics are the persistent question: early delivered tonnes reportedly priced near $600 per tonne, an order of magnitude above where large-scale removal must land to matter, and the bull case requires an aggressive cost-down curve on a biomass-collection-and-pyrolysis operation whose inputs — gathering, drying, and transporting diffuse agricultural and forestry waste — are logistically expensive and hard to compress. The bio-oil injection pathway, while durable, invites scrutiny over well integrity, monitoring, and whether injecting a novel liquid into geologic formations wins the permits and public acceptance that scale requires. Biomass supply is itself contested: sourcing residues at gigaton scale competes with soil health, other bioenergy uses, and sustainability critics who question whether "waste" biomass is truly additional. The Google and TD deals are future-delivery purchase agreements, not banked revenue, and delivery through 2030 exposes Charm to years of execution and cost risk before those tonnes are booked. Competition in durable removal is intensifying across biochar, enhanced weathering, bio-oil, and DAC, and buyers increasingly demand rigorous, cheaper measured removal. At roughly $108M raised against the capital needs of scaling geologic-injection infrastructure nationwide, Charm must prove it can drop cost per tonne dramatically while the voluntary market that funds it stays soft. A genuine leader in delivered permanence, still selling a product that costs far too much.
