Modular direct air capture facilities in Hellisheidi, Iceland that draw ambient air through collectors packed with amine-functionalized solid sorbents, then use low-temperature geothermal heat to release concentrated CO2. The gas is dissolved in water and injected underground by partner Carbfix, where it mineralizes into rock for permanent storage. Orca (2021) is rated at 4,000 tCO2/yr and Mammoth (2024) at up to 36,000 tCO2/yr nameplate, supplying durable carbon-removal credits to corporate buyers, though both have run well below design capacity.
