It produces about 67 million gallons of ethanol a year plus distillers grains and corn oil, and captures fermentation CO2 for injection into an onsite Class VI well in the Broom Creek formation. A planned expansion targeting completion in 2028 would raise ethanol output to 150 million gallons a year.
Gevo sells carbon removal credits for the biogenic CO2 it stores underground at its North Dakota plant, certified by Puro.earth under its geologically stored carbon methodology. The well is permitted for 180,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. Buyers include Nasdaq and Whirlpool, and Gevo also sells through intermediaries such as ClimeFi and CEEZER.
Gevo is developing an alcohol-to-jet facility, known as ATJ-30, co-located at its North Dakota site to convert ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel. In August 2026 it said it would exit its larger ATJ-60 project in Lake Preston, South Dakota, to focus on North Dakota.
