Delta opens a sustainable aviation fuel blending facility at its Minneapolis hub, advancing SAF adoption in commercial aviation.

Sustainable aviation fuel market forecasted at 8.0% CAGR through 2032, driven by green aviation adoption.
Sustainable aviation fuel made by converting ethanol — sourced from low-carbon, waste, and recycled-carbon feedstocks — into drop-in jet fuel via LanzaJet's alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) process, alongside a renewable-diesel co-product. The fuel cuts lifecycle greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 70% versus conventional jet fuel and meets aviation specifications without engine modification. LanzaJet's flagship Freedom Pines Fuels plant in Soperton, Georgia, the world's first ethanol-to-SAF facility, opened in 2024 to produce about 9 million gallons of SAF and 1 million gallons of renewable diesel annually, and the company also licenses the technology to third-party plant developers.
