Mantel's technology uses a molten borate salt, a liquid sorbent that stays stable above 600 degrees C, to absorb CO2 directly inside the high-temperature zones of industrial boilers, kilns, and furnaces. Because it captures at the source's own heat, the system recovers high-grade thermal energy during absorption and reuses it to regenerate the sorbent, which the company says cuts capture costs by more than half versus conventional solvent scrubbing. Suited to cement, steel, pulp and paper, and oil and gas, the approach can reduce a facility's CO2 emissions by roughly 95 percent without the cooling and large solvent volumes amine systems require.
