Project Canary

Project Canary owns the measurement-and-trust layer for methane, the super-pollutant regulators and buyers care about most in the near term because a tonne of it warms dozens of times harder than CO2 over two decades. Its combination — continuous methane-monitoring hardware (the Canary X system quantifying emissions in 15-minute increments) plus analytics plus an independent Responsibly Sourced Gas certification tracked wellhead-to-burner-tip — is a genuinely integrated stack that turns raw sensor data into auditable emissions intensities and a differentiated-gas rating buyers can price. That matters commercially even without a federal fee: LNG offtakers, European importers, and utilities increasingly demand verified low-methane gas, and certification is the currency of that market. Project Canary's status as a public-benefit corporation and its EPA-reviewed calibration and QA/QC processes give it third-party credibility that operators can't self-attest their way into. The $111M Series B (2022, Insight Partners) capitalized a build across oil-and-gas production, midstream, gas utilities, and industrial sites, and continuous measurement is stickier than periodic surveys — once sensors are deployed and feeding compliance and disclosure reporting, they are hard to rip out. As methane becomes the pollutant everyone measures first, the independent measurement layer compounds.
