A low-carbon cement made by an electrochemical process that splits calcium and silicate feedstocks at room temperature, replacing the ~1,450C fossil-fueled rotary kiln used in conventional manufacturing. Because it skips the kiln and can run on renewable electricity, Sublime Cement avoids both the fuel-combustion and limestone-decomposition emissions that make cement one of the largest industrial sources of CO2. The product is designed to meet performance standards as a true replacement for ordinary portland cement, and is the basis for Microsoft's multi-year offtake of up to 622,500 metric tons.
