Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Houston, Vaulted Deep adapts established slurry-injection well technology to permanently sequester carbon held in organic waste streams such as biosolids, paper-mill sludge, manure, and crop residues. By pumping this material thousands of feet below the surface into geologic formations, the company both removes carbon and provides a disposal path for problematic organic waste. In April 2025, Vaulted Deep was awarded $8 million as a runner-up in the $100 million XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition, having delivered 9,986 net tonnes of carbon removal during the demonstration period.
