Zhen Lu
Zhen Lu co-founded Runpod with Pardeep Singh and serves as CEO. The two were corporate developers at Comcast and friends who each ran cryptocurrency-mining rigs out of their New Jersey basements. Already working on machine-learning projects, they found the experience of developing software on top of GPUs frustrating, so in late 2021 they converted their mining rigs into AI servers — before ChatGPT and even DALL-E 2 — and began renting access. After sharing the product on Reddit and Discord in early 2022, the user base took off; the company later raised a $20M seed after a Dell Technologies Capital partner spotted its Reddit posts, and by early 2026 had reached roughly $120M in annual revenue with about 500,000 developer customers.
