The product primitives — vals as forkable, versioned, instantly-served functions with cron, email, and storage built in — are exactly the substrate LLM-generated software wants, and Townie v5 (rebuilt on the Claude 4.5 family, "Claude Code in the browser") monetizes that with pay-per-use credits decoupled from subscriptions. The economics are the opposite of the sector's cash bonfires: $7M raised (Accel-led seed, April 2024), a deliberately tiny team, and a stated goal of reaching break-even in 2026 — meaning the company controls its own destiny with no forced-exit clock. The February 2026 investor update reads like a company in graceful contraction, not coiled optionality: the team is down to three people from five, with departures to Anthropic and Cloudflare — the talent-flight signature of a startup whose best people see steeper curves elsewhere. Both are honorable; neither returns a venture portfolio, and the option expires as bigger platforms absorb the instant-runtime idea.
