Jake Cannell
Jake Cannell co-founded Vast.ai and serves as CEO. An ML engineer and GPU programmer, he spent roughly a decade as a graphics programmer working on simulation before turning to machine learning. He is known for essays published on LessWrong starting in 2010 arguing that intelligence is fundamentally a function of compute, including his 2015 piece "The Brain as a Universal Learning Machine." Convinced that the world is full of underutilized GPU hardware while those who need compute most can't afford hyperscaler rates, he co-founded Vast.ai with Christian Horne as a marketplace renting out spare GPU capacity, building the platform end-to-end including host onboarding, search, pricing, and Docker-based instance management.
