Spent ten years writing C++ for his father's dental implant factory in Quebec City before shipping the first ComfyUI commit on January 17, 2023. Had zero machine learning experience when he built the first version in two weeks. The original goal was to chain two diffusion models with different denoising steps—a workflow existing UIs couldn't express, solved by a node-graph architecture. When Stability AI began funding the work in mid-2023, ComfyUI was already the reference UI inside the Stable Diffusion research team; that funding ended in early 2024 when leadership turmoil led him to leave. On June 3, 2024, he formed Comfy Org with co-developers including Daxiong and Dr.Lt.Data. Distinguishing trait: Built the project solo before institutional backing—shipped it, took Stability AI employment, then departed; the eighteen months when the contributor base kept it alive without commercial support became the source of the project's credibility with the open-source community.
