Arctic Wolf

Arctic Wolf sells what the mid-market most desperately lacks and cannot hire: a functioning security operations center. Its managed detection and response model pairs a cloud-native platform ingesting endpoint, network, cloud, and identity telemetry with a named "Concierge" team of security engineers who act as an outsourced SOC — an answer to the structural, permanent shortage of security talent that no software-only product solves. That human-plus-platform bundle produces exceptionally sticky, high-retention relationships and a large recurring-revenue base; Arctic Wolf is consistently cited among the largest MDR providers and a perennial IPO candidate, having raised more than $850M including a $401M convertible round in 2022. The February 2025 acquisition of Cylance from BlackBerry for roughly $160M was strategically shrewd: it gave Arctic Wolf native endpoint-protection technology — rebranded Aurora Endpoint Security — so it now owns the sensor generating much of the telemetry it monitors, improving both margins and detection while reducing dependence on third-party EDR. As AI agents transform SOC economics, Arctic Wolf's model is well-suited to absorb automation as margin expansion rather than disruption, because customers pay for outcomes and coverage, not headcount. In a market where MDR demand keeps outpacing the labor to supply it, the category's scaled leader has a clear path to a large IPO.
