Founded in 2012 by Brian NeSmith and Kim Tremblay, both Blue Coat Systems alumni, Arctic Wolf delivers security operations as a service: its cloud-native platform ingests telemetry across endpoints, networks, cloud, and identity, while a team of dedicated security engineers acts as an outsourced security operations center for each customer. The model centers on managed detection and response (MDR), managed risk, and incident response. In February 2025 Arctic Wolf closed its acquisition of Cylance, the endpoint-protection business, from BlackBerry for roughly $160 million, adding native endpoint technology that it rebranded as Aurora Endpoint Security. The company has raised more than $850 million and is frequently cited as an IPO candidate; it is headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
Arctic Wolf is one of the largest independent MDR providers and a leading test of the security-operations-as-a-service model, now bolstered by the Cylance endpoint stack.
