Founded in 2019 by former Check Point CTO Avi Shua and Gil Geron, Orca Security pioneered an agentless approach to cloud security: its patented SideScanning technology reads cloud workloads from the side via snapshots, giving full-stack visibility without installing agents on every machine. The platform unifies vulnerability management, CSPM, CWPP, CIEM, DSPM, and API security into a single CNAPP. Geron became CEO in 2023 while Shua moved to Chief Innovation Officer. In May 2025 Orca acquired remediation startup Opus to push toward automated, AI-driven cloud security fixes.
Orca's agentless SideScanning reframed how enterprises secure sprawling multi-cloud environments, making it a defining player in the CNAPP category alongside Wiz.
