The Adallom band gets back together
Wiz's four founders — Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Roy Reznik and Yinon Costica — were not first-timers. They had built Adallom, a cloud-access security broker acquired by Microsoft in 2015, and Rappaport went on to run Microsoft's Israeli R&D and cloud-security group before leaving to start again. In January 2020 the team founded Wiz (briefly named Beyond Networks) in New York with a contrarian bet: instead of installing software agents on every workload, Wiz would connect to a cloud environment with read-only API access and build a graph of the whole thing. That graph — mapping vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, identities, network exposure and secrets — let it surface the small number of 'toxic combinations' an attacker could actually chain into a breach. It was a cleaner model than the agent-based incumbents, and it landed at the exact moment enterprises were moving everything to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
