Holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion. His interest in search began in 2004 when he tried to build a recipe search app for his wife, a project that led him to write the first lines of Elasticsearch in 2009. He founded Elastic in 2012 and served as CTO (2012–2017), then CEO (2017–2022), before returning to the CTO role to focus on product and technology. Under his leadership Elastic went public on NYSE in 2018. He is widely credited with popularizing real-time full-text search and analytics through the Elastic Stack.

Berlin-based software engineer with 19 years of experience in search engine internals and information retrieval. He has been an Apache Lucene core committer and PMC member since 2006 and serves as Vice President of Apache Lucene. He co-founded BerlinBuzzwords, a major conference on search and scalability, and led Elasticsearch core development for over five years before co-founding Elastic with Shay Banon, Steven Schuurman, and Uri Boness in 2012. He specializes in index performance optimization, non-blocking concurrency, and distributed search.

Dutch technology entrepreneur born in Delft. He co-founded SpringSource in 2008, an open-source Java application framework company acquired by VMware for $420M in 2009. After VMware he ran JTeam (rebranded Orange11), an Amsterdam software firm he grew 500% through acquisitions before it was acquired by Trifork. He co-founded Elastic with Shay Banon, Simon Willnauer, and Uri Boness in Amsterdam in July 2012, serving as CEO through May 2017 and guiding the company from a search tool to a full observability and security analytics platform through its 2018 NYSE IPO.

He co-founded Elastic with Shay Banon, Simon Willnauer, and Steven Schuurman in 2012, bringing search architecture expertise that helped shape Elasticsearch's early enterprise capabilities. He is based in Amsterdam and focuses on search infrastructure.
