Imply

Holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering and an MASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is an original author of Apache Druid and served as Lead Engineer at Metamarkets (acquired by Snap), where he advanced real-time analytics technology. He also held a senior engineering role at Cisco. He co-founded Imply in 2015 to commercialize Apache Druid and has remained a core technical contributor to the project, working on indexing, ingestion, and auto-scaling. He also serves as an a16z scout and angel investor.

Holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Caltech. He is one of the original authors of Apache Druid and served as the project's first PMC chair. He led the data ingestion team at Metamarkets, where he worked alongside co-founders Fangjin Yang and Vadim Ogievetsky, and previously held senior engineering positions at Yahoo. He co-founded Imply in 2015 and serves as CTO, where he has driven major feature contributions to Apache Druid including the multi-stage query engine and SQL integration that made the database more accessible to data engineers.

Holds a B.A. from Oxford and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford, where he contributed to the Data Visualization group and co-created Protovis and D3.js — the foundational JavaScript visualization library adopted across the analytics industry. He is an original author of Apache Druid and worked as UI lead at Metamarkets before co-founding Imply in 2015 with Fangjin Yang and Gian Merlino. As CXO he focuses on interactive data visualization and the user experience layer of Imply's real-time analytics platform.
