Chang She
One of the original co-authors of the pandas library, contributing to the foundational Python data tool from 2009 to 2014 alongside creator Wes McKinney. He co-founded business-intelligence startup DataPad with McKinney and sold it to Cloudera in 2014, then served as VP of Engineering at Tubi through Fox's $440M acquisition of the streamer in 2020. Convinced that Parquet-era columnar storage couldn't serve multimodal AI, he co-founded LanceDB in 2022 (Y Combinator W22) with former Cloudera HDFS engineer Lei Xu to build the Lance format and a lakehouse for vectors, images, video, and text. As CEO he has taken Lance past 20 million downloads, signed Midjourney, Runway, Character.AI, and Netflix as production users, and raised a $30M Series A led by Theory Ventures in June 2025.
