B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from University of Idaho and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. At Netflix he co-created Apache Iceberg — the open table format now central to the data lakehouse ecosystem — and donated it to the Apache Software Foundation. He is PMC chair of Apache Iceberg and a PMC member of Apache Parquet and Avro. He co-founded Tabular in 2021 to build the first independent Iceberg-based data platform. Databricks acquired Tabular in June 2024 to unite the creators of Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake.

He spent nine years at Netflix (2013–2021), including as Engineering Manager of Big Data Compute, leading scaling of Spark, Hadoop, Trino, and Druid. He co-created Apache Iceberg at Netflix alongside Ryan Blue and Jason Reid, and is PMC chair of Apache Iceberg and a PMC member of Apache Parquet and Avro. He co-founded Tabular in 2021 as Head of Engineering. Databricks acquired Tabular in June 2024, bringing together the original Iceberg creators with the Delta Lake team.

Spent his career at Netflix, rising to Director of Data Architecture where he led data engineering at one of the world's largest streaming platforms. He was part of the Netflix team that created Apache Iceberg — the open table format for huge analytic datasets — alongside Ryan Blue and Daniel Weeks, and donated it to the Apache Software Foundation. He co-founded Tabular in 2021 as Head of Product, applying his Netflix data architecture experience to build the leading independent Iceberg-based data management platform. Databricks acquired Tabular in June 2024.
