Newport News Shipbuilding builds the Navy's Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. It delivered USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) in 2017 and is building John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), Enterprise (CVN 80) and Doris Miller (CVN 81). The yard is also the prime contractor for carrier refueling and complex overhauls, a job of nearly four years that USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) began in September 2026.
Under a teaming agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat, Newport News builds Virginia-class fast attack submarines, with final assembly and delivery alternating between the two yards. As a subcontractor to Electric Boat, it also does design work and builds modules for the 12-boat Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine program. Newport News has delivered 65 submarines to the Navy since 1960.
Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, builds the Navy's large-deck amphibious assault ships and San Antonio-class amphibious transport docks, and is one of two builders of Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers. It has delivered 36 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, including USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128) in 2025. Ingalls also designed and builds the Coast Guard's Legend-class national security cutter.
ROMULUS is HII's family of unmanned surface vessels, built by its Mission Technologies segment. In 2026 the Navy selected ROMULUS to advance to the evaluation phase of its Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel (MUSV) program, and HII said it would build four more ROMULUS 151 vessels beyond the one under construction. Mission Technologies also builds unmanned underwater vehicles for customers in more than 30 countries.
