A medium-to-heavy-lift reusable launch vehicle designed for commercial orbital launch services. Standing 87 meters tall, Terran R features thirteen 3D-printed Aeon R engines on its first stage, capable of delivering approximately 33,500 kg of payload to low Earth orbit in expendable configuration or 23,500 kg with a reusable first stage. The rocket leverages Relativity Space's proprietary additive manufacturing technology to reduce vehicle complexity, cost, and production time while supporting missions for government, commercial, and telecommunications customers.
Relativity Space's first orbital launch vehicle and the world's first 3D-printed rocket. Standing 115 feet tall, Terran 1 is powered by nine 3D-printed Aeon 1 engines on its first stage and one vacuum-optimized Aeon engine on the second stage, capable of delivering up to 1,250 kg to low Earth orbit. The rocket completed its maiden flight in March 2023, demonstrating the viability of 3D-printed rocket structures. While development of Terran 1 has been shelved in favor of the larger Terran R, it served as a crucial proof-of-concept for additive manufacturing in aerospace.
Relativity Space's advanced 3D-printed liquid rocket engine designed to power the Terran R launch vehicle. Each Aeon R engine produces approximately 258,000 pounds of thrust at sea level using a gas-generator cycle and burns liquid methane and liquid oxygen. The engine features simplified construction with complex assemblies printed as single components, drastically reducing the number of individual parts compared to traditional engine designs and enabling rapid iteration and high production rates.
