IDEMIA Public Security is the biometrics and government-identity division of IDEMIA Group, which was formed in 2017 from the merger of Morpho and Oberthur Technologies and is headquartered in Courbevoie, France. The division builds fingerprint, face and iris recognition algorithms and devices and sells them through four lines: trusted access for sites and enterprises; justice and public safety systems for police enrollment, identification and investigation; travel products for airlines, airports, borders and cruise lines; and identity in North America, where it issues physical and mobile driver's licenses and state IDs for motor-vehicle agencies. It has about 3,300 employees and more than 600 public- and private-sector customers. IDEMIA is owned by private-equity firm Advent International. On April 29, 2026, Amadeus announced its intention to acquire the division for €1.2 billion, with an earn-out that could lift the total to €1.35 billion. The deal is pending regulatory approvals and is expected to close in mid-2027.
IDEMIA Public Security runs identity systems for border, transport and motor-vehicle agencies: more than 3,000 of its MFACE facial-recognition units process travelers at borders and airports, and its North American unit put California's mobile driver's license and state ID into Samsung Wallet on April 30, 2026. It works with Leidos on biometric eGates and TSA credential checks at U.S. airport checkpoints. Amadeus's pending €1.2 billion purchase would join those biometrics to airline, airport, border and hotel systems.
