Grown out of founder André Ferraz's earlier indoor-location company In Loco and refocused on identity in 2020, the product occupies a distinctive layer — location-identity — that complements rather than competes with document checks and behavioral biometrics, making it an easy additive sale to fraud teams already running other tools. The traction is real: since its 2024 Series B (a $31M round led by Bessemer with Point72 Ventures, Prosus, Valor, and FJ Labs), Incognia reports tripling revenue with nearly a billion devices protected, and it has extended the platform with a 2025 Environments Linked to Fraud feature and a browser-intelligence product that pushes beyond on-device signals. Its wedge into the gig economy and consumer-internet marketplaces — where multi-accounting, app tampering, and fake-account creation are the top fraud priorities — is precisely where location as a scarce, non-replicable signal shines: a fraudster can fake a document or a face far more easily than the physical location and device history of a legitimate user. As synthetic identity and deepfakes erode document-and-biometric trust, a passive behavioral-location layer becomes more valuable, not less.
