Base Power

Zach Dell became interested in battery storage while interning at Blackstone in 2019, where he evaluated a lithium mine acquisition and recognized the US grid's structural vulnerabilities. He subsequently joined Thrive Capital, attending meetings with battery companies to deepen his expertise. Dell co-founded Base Power in 2023 after meeting Justin Lopas during a factory tour at Anduril. Dell is the son of Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell and has spoken publicly about the company's mission to build the fastest-growing energy startup in American history by deploying home batteries as a distributed grid resource.

Justin Lopas graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering and joined SpaceX as a manufacturing engineer, becoming one of the first four people building the Starbase facility in Texas. He contributed to the Starhopper prototype — the first iteration of the Starship program. In 2020 he joined Anduril as Head of Manufacturing, leading a 150-person team covering manufacturing engineering, operations, and supply chain. Lopas co-founded Base Power with Zach Dell in 2023 to apply hardware-at-scale discipline to home battery deployment and virtual power plant operations.
