Bob Mumgaard
Bob Mumgaard earned his Ph.D. in applied plasma physics from MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center, where he studied engineering and physics after being drawn to fusion's promise. At MIT he co-organized the "SPARC Underground," a grassroots group of researchers who explored commercializing fusion via private capital rather than federal grants. Mumgaard co-founded Commonwealth Fusion Systems in 2018 as a spinout from MIT, and serves as CEO. He has testified before the U.S. Congress on fusion energy commercialization and has led CFS through the demonstration of its REBCO high-temperature superconducting magnet, a key milestone for the SPARC tokamak.
