Aleph Farms holds the single scarcest asset in cultivated meat: the world's first regulatory approval for cultivated beef, granted by Israel's Ministry of Health in January 2024 as a "No Questions" letter — the first ever issued for any non-chicken cultivated meat anywhere. That clearance covers the Aleph Cut Petit Steak, grown from non-modified, non-immortalized Black Angus cells in a plant-protein matrix, and it puts Aleph on the premium end of the category chasing whole cuts rather than the ground-meat mince most rivals settle for. The company has raised over $140M from a strategically ideal cap table — Cargill and L Catterton bring meat-industry distribution and consumer-brand muscle, and celebrity backing (Leonardo DiCaprio) supplies marketing reach a lab-grown steak needs to cross into fine dining. Crucially, the 2024 restructuring pivoted Aleph to an asset-light model: rather than build its own plants, it is partnering with BBGI and Fermbox Bio in Thailand, The Cultured Hub in Switzerland, and Cell Agritech in Malaysia to outsource capacity, letting others carry the capital burden that has bankrupted peers. If cultivated whole-cut beef ever finds a viable price point, the company that got there first on approvals, holds premium positioning, and doesn't own the factories is positioned to capture the high-margin top of the market without the balance-sheet risk that sank the field's more vertically integrated bets.
