Aleph Farms is a Cultivated Meat company founded in 2017 and based in Rehovot, Israel. It has raised $140M in total funding, most recently a Growth round in 2024.
Aleph Farms was founded in 2017 in Rehovot, Israel, by Didier Toubia together with Technion professor Shulamit Levenberg, growing whole cuts of beef directly from the cells of a single cow rather than producing ground or minced meat. It unveiled what it called the world's first cultivated thin-cut beef steak in 2018 and a cultivated ribeye in 2021. In January 2024 the Israeli Ministry of Health cleared Aleph's cultivated beef as safe to eat, which the company described as the world's first regulatory approval for cultivated beef; its first product, the Aleph Cut Petit Steak, is made from non-modified, non-immortalized Black Angus cells and a plant-protein matrix. The company has raised over 140 million dollars from backers including Cargill, L Catterton and Leonardo DiCaprio, and in 2024 raised a further 29 million dollars while modifying its process to cut costs.
Aleph Farms achieved the world's first regulatory approval for cultivated beef and is one of the few companies pursuing whole-cut steaks rather than ground meat, making it a leading indicator for the high end of the cultivated-meat category.
