Andy Puddicombe
A childhood introduction to meditation was followed by a pivot away from a Sports Science degree after a drunk-driving accident killed two friends. At 22, Puddicombe traveled to the Himalayas and spent roughly a decade as a monk, training in the Mahasi lineage of Burmese Buddhism and later taking full ordination in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. After returning to lay life in 2004, he trained briefly at the Moscow State Circus and earned a Foundation Degree in Circus Arts in London — an unlikely detour that preceded founding a meditation consultancy. That practice became Headspace, first run as live events, then launched as the now-iconic app in 2012 alongside co-founder Richard Pierson. He is the voice and face of Headspace, known for demystifying meditation for a secular audience.
