5Y Capital was started in 2008 by Richard Liu, Ken Shi and Gerald Chan as Morningside Venture Capital, spinning out of the Chan family's Morningside Group, and rebranded in October 2020 after Shanghai's Wuyuan Road, where the team has been headquartered from the beginning. The firm reports more than $5 billion under management from global sovereign wealth funds, endowments, foundations, family offices and funds of funds. Its multi-stage portfolio includes Xiaomi, Kuaishou, XPeng and Pony.ai.
