Canaan was formed in 1987 when Harry Rein, Eric Young and colleagues bought out General Electric's venture capital unit, and has since invested in more than 450 companies with over 70 IPOs. The bicoastal firm allocates roughly 60% of its capital to technology and 40% to healthcare, with a portfolio that has included LendingClub, Instacart, The RealReal and Ebates.
