Joseph DeSimone
An American chemist with a B.S. from Ursinus College and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, he spent 20+ years as a joint professor at UNC Chapel Hill and NC State University, pioneering green chemistry using supercritical CO2 to manufacture fluoropolymers and winning the EPA's Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 1997. He co-founded Carbon in 2013 and served as CEO until 2019, scaling it to 400+ employees and a $2.4B valuation. He holds nearly 200 issued patents and currently serves as Professor at Stanford's School of Medicine.
