Kazuma Tateishi
Born in Japan in the early 20th century, he founded Tateishi Electric Manufacturing in Osaka in 1933 using an induction-type protective relay he had worked on at Inoue Electric Manufacturing. After encountering the concepts of automation and cybernetics in 1952 and visiting U.S. factory floors in 1953, he made industrial automation the company's strategic core — 1955 is formally recognized as 'Year One of Automation' at OMRON. The company was renamed OMRON Corporation in 1990. Tateishi built one of Japan's most enduring industrial automation conglomerates before his death.
