James DeMuth
Holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Santa Clara University and an M.S. from Stanford University, specializing in Energy Systems and High Temperature Gas Dynamics. He joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's National Ignition Facility in 2009 as a mechanical engineer working on laser-based additive manufacturing and fusion energy. While developing an electro-optical device to protect optics from high-fluence lasers, he realized it could pattern light for parallel metal powder sintering and co-invented the core technology that became Seurat's Area Printing process. He co-founded Seurat in 2015, became CEO in 2020, and holds co-inventor credits on 145 patents.
