Z-axis Fiber is Boston Materials' patented technology that takes recycled and short carbon fibers and aligns them vertically, perpendicular to the plane of a material, then bonds them into surfaces and laminates. Commercialized under the ZRT tradename, the resulting materials dramatically improve through-plane thermal conductivity and energy transfer while remaining lightweight. They are used for thermal management and structural lightweighting in semiconductor packaging, aerospace platforms and electrified vehicles, addressing heat-dissipation and weight challenges that conventional in-plane carbon-fiber laminates cannot solve.
