Cyclic Materials

Cyclic Materials is scaling a first-of-kind circular supply chain into a market whose economics are set by Beijing: China dominates rare-earth separation and can, and historically has, moved prices to pressure Western entrants, meaning Cyclic's recovered-oxide revenue is exposed to a supplier with both the incentive and the capacity to undercut it. Recycling also faces a structural feedstock problem — the supply of end-of-life magnets is limited and dispersed, collection and logistics are costly, and the largest volumes of retired EV motors and turbines are still years away, so a plant sized for 500 tonnes/year must prove it can source enough material at the right price to run economically. The company is pre-scale and capital-intensive: $162M-plus raised funds a business that must build multiple facilities across two countries before reaching the volumes that justify its ambition, and any construction slip, offtake delay, or rare-earth price collapse strains the model. Purifying individual rare earths to magnet-grade specification is genuinely hard chemistry at scale, and offtake agreements are commitments, not delivered revenue. The bull case requires simultaneously proving the process at commercial scale, securing dispersed feedstock, and doing so against a state-backed incumbent that controls the price of the very products Cyclic sells.
