Dunia Innovations is Europe's most ambitious bet on industrial-scale autonomous materials discovery, integrating AI-guided design, autonomous robotic experimentation, digital simulation, and industrial-grade characterization into a single closed loop — its IRIS platform (launched May 2025) can propose, make, measure, and learn from new materials with minimal human intervention, claiming R&D-timeline reductions of up to tenfold. The self-driving-lab thesis is one of the most credible in materials AI precisely because it closes the loop with real experiments rather than relying on prediction alone, generating proprietary physical data that trains better models. Dunia's differentiator is scale ambition: a planned 6,000-square-meter, roughly EUR 280M Berlin "GigaLab" to industrialize AI-driven discovery, backed by an unusually strong partner roster — Siemens, ABB Robotics, Nvidia, and AWS — targeting operations in 2028 and applications across catalysis, battery materials, semiconductors, and critical-material substitution.
