Fairmat

Recycled carbon fiber is a decades-old graveyard of good intentions: chopped and reclaimed fiber loses the continuous alignment that gives virgin composite its strength, so it has historically been relegated to low-value, non-structural applications where the addressable market and margins are thin. Fairmat's chip-reassembly approach improves on that, but "performance approaching virgin" is not "qualified for a primary aerospace structure," and the certification path for flight- or safety-critical parts is measured in years and stringent test campaigns that the €50M revenue figure has not yet cleared. That contracted-revenue number also bundles feedstock intake and offtake commitments that are not the same as delivered, margin-positive product, and the venture-debt component of the Series B is a fixed obligation that bites if the ramp slips. Scaling two automated factories on two continents simultaneously is operationally aggressive for a company of this size, and the whole thesis leans on regulatory pressure and voluntary sustainability premiums that can soften with the political cycle. Feedstock supply is also lumpier than it looks — aerospace scrap and end-of-life wind blades arrive unpredictably and require reverse-logistics networks Fairmat must build. And the exit market is narrow: the buyers who value recycled carbon fiber are the same aerospace and wind primes that move slowly and demand exhaustive proof. Fairmat is betting it can be the first to make circular carbon fiber both high-performance and profitable — a bar the industry has never cleared.
