Vulcan Elements makes sintered neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets, the high-strength magnets used in electric motors, drones, satellites, robotics, semiconductor equipment and military platforms. Production runs at its Research Triangle Park, North Carolina facility, and the company says its magnets have been independently validated and delivered to defense and technology customers.
The Benson, North Carolina plant is a $1 billion, 1.1 million-square-foot magnet factory under construction, designed for 10,000 metric tons of magnets a year and about 1,000 jobs. It is backed by the $1.4 billion public-private package announced in November 2025, including the $620 million Office of Strategic Capital loan.
Vulcan plans to produce high-purity rare-earth metals at its commercial facility to feed its own magnet lines. ReElement Technologies supplies it with separated light and heavy rare-earth oxides refined from end-of-life magnets, electronic waste and mined concentrates.
