Gravity

Gravity is a thesis wrapped around one building. Its entire verifiable track record is a single 24-charger Manhattan garage doing 40,000 sessions in a year — roughly 110 sessions a day, a modest utilization base — while every expansion claim remains unconsummated: none of the eight announced LA sites had a confirmed opening through June 2026, the "national corporate partner" behind them has never been named, and the public record from February to June 2026 is conspicuously silent. The capital base is opaque to the point of concern: the only disclosed round ever is the GV-led seed of November 2023, amount undisclosed, and no Series A has surfaced — yet the company is pursuing simultaneous hardware development, multi-city site buildout, and network operation, three of the most capital-hungry businesses in cleantech, on a seed-stage balance sheet with a headcount in the tens. The home-market race is being lost in plain sight: Revel secured a $60M New York Green Bank loan in February 2025 to more than triple its NYC fast-charging network to 267 new stalls by 2027, opened a 24-charger JFK site with the Port Authority, and expanded to San Francisco — institutional-capital scaling Gravity cannot match — while NYC DOT's documented curbside programs run through Con Edison and NYPA, with no confirmed contract award to Gravity despite the lobbying hires. The 500 kW headline speed serves the handful of 800-volt vehicles that can absorb it; the median EV cannot. Urban real estate, ConEd interconnection queues, and demand charges are brutal unit economics that a slick swing-arm does not repeal. Without a large disclosed raise soon, Gravity is a hardware showcase, not a network.
