Rivian
Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) is a publicly traded Next-Gen EV & Vehicles company founded in 2009 and based in Irvine, United States.
Founded in 2009 by RJ Scaringe (originally as Mainstream Motors), Rivian is an American electric-vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Irvine, California, with its primary plant in Normal, Illinois. It builds the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, an electric delivery van originally developed with Amazon, and is launching the lower-priced R2 SUV in the first half of 2026 with the smaller R3 to follow. In late 2024 Rivian formed a joint venture with Volkswagen Group (Rivian and VW Group Technology) worth up to roughly $5.8 billion to share Rivian's software-defined vehicle architecture; Volkswagen became Rivian's top shareholder. Rivian closed 2025 with its first full year of positive gross profit ($144 million versus a $1.2 billion gross loss in 2024).
One of the few US EV startups to reach volume production and positive gross profit, now anchoring a multi-billion-dollar software JV with Volkswagen.
