Rivian's first-generation consumer EVs: the R1T is a five-passenger electric adventure pickup and the R1S is a three-row electric SUV, both built on the company's skateboard platform with quad- and dual-motor drivetrains, off-road capability, and long-range battery packs. Sold direct to consumers in North America, they established Rivian's premium adventure brand and were re-engineered in 2024 around a new zonal electrical architecture that cut cost and complexity. They remain the volume products funding Rivian's move to mass-market models.
Rivian's second-generation, lower-priced EVs aimed at higher volume. The R2 is a midsize five-seat SUV starting around $45,000, with production beginning in 2026 at the Normal, Illinois plant and deliveries following shortly after. The R3 is a smaller crossover, with a sportier R3X variant, planned to follow the R2. Both ride on a new platform and the software-defined architecture that underpins Rivian's Volkswagen joint venture, and are central to Rivian's plan to reach a far larger customer base.
An electric last-mile delivery van Rivian originally co-developed with and built for Amazon, which ordered 100,000 units. Rivian has since opened sales of its commercial van to other fleet operators. The van uses Rivian's electric platform, integrated software, and fleet-management tools, and represents the company's business-to-business arm distinct from its consumer trucks and SUVs, contributing recurring volume and helping diversify revenue beyond premium consumer vehicles.
